The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative – Basic Education Employment Initiative (PYEI-BEEI) has officially opened applications for Phase V, offering unemployed South African youth a chance to gain valuable work experience in the education sector. From 22 April to 15 May 2025, eligible candidates aged 18-34 can apply for various positions, including Education Assistants (EA) and General School Assistants (GSA). Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of R4,000.00 (less 1% UIF contribution) plus R30.00 data allowance, with contracts starting on 02 June 2025.

About PYEI-BEEI

The PYEI-BEEI is a government-led initiative aimed at reducing youth unemployment by providing temporary employment opportunities within the basic education sector. This program not only supports schools with additional manpower but also equips young people with essential skills for future career growth.

Available Positions

1. Education Assistants (EA) – Minimum Requirement: Matric (Preference for Tertiary Qualifications)

Education Assistants play a crucial role in supporting teaching and learning in schools. Available roles include:

Curriculum Assistants – Assist teachers with lesson delivery and curriculum support.

Reading Champions – Promote literacy and reading programs among learners.

e-Cadres (ICT Integration) – Help integrate technology into classroom learning.

Care & Support Assistants – Provide psychosocial support to students.

Laboratory Assistants – Support science experiments and lab maintenance.

Workshop Assistants – Aid in technical and vocational training workshops.

2. General School Assistants (GSA) – No Matric Required

These positions focus on school maintenance and extracurricular activities:

• Handymen/Women – Assist with school infrastructure repairs and upkeep.
• Sports & Enrichment Assistants – Lead sports, arts, and cultural programs.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for PYEI-BEEI Phase V, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• South African citizens aged 18-34
• Unemployed and not enrolled in formal education
• Must have a valid South African bank account
• Must reside within 5km of an urban school or 30km of a rural/farm school
• Previous participants of PYEI-BEEI Phases I, II, III, and IV are eligible to reapply

• Interviews: 19 May – 31 May 2025
